How Does a Diamond Tester Work? 💎🔍
-
1️⃣ Thermal Conductivity Testers 🔥 (Most Common)
- Diamonds conduct heat extremely well, unlike most fake stones
- The tester has a metal tip that touches the stone and detects how quickly heat moves through it
- If the heat dissipates fast → it’s a real diamond
- Moissanite can also conduct heat, so this test may not always distinguish between the two
-
2️⃣ Electrical Conductivity Testers ⚡ (For Diamonds vs. Moissanite)
- Moissanite conducts electricity, while diamonds do not
- Electrical diamond testers use a small electrical current to check conductivity
- If it conducts electricity → it’s moissanite, not a diamond
- This test is often combined with thermal testing for accuracy
-
3️⃣ UV & Fluorescence Test 🌟
- Some diamonds glow under UV light (fluorescence), while others do not
- Lab-grown diamonds sometimes have different fluorescence patterns than natural ones
